How to Protect Your Domain Assets: Essential Security

Why Domain Security is Crucial

Your domain name is the brand equity of your online business. If an attacker gains access to your domain registrar account, they can redirect your traffic, hijack your email boxes, and steal your customer data. Implementing strong security protocols is mandatory to prevent unauthorized transfers and registrar locks.

1. Enable Registrar Transfer Lock

A transfer lock (represented in WHOIS as the clientTransferProhibited status) prevents your domain from being transferred to another registrar without your explicit consent. Ensure this is always enabled inside your registrar settings.

2. Activate WHOIS Privacy Protection

When you register a domain, your contact information (name, address, email, phone) is saved in a public database. Spammers and scammers regularly scrape this database. Activating WHOIS Privacy hides your personal details behind proxy values, keeping you safe from social engineering attacks.

3. Use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Secure your registrar account (Namecheap, Dynadot, etc.) with Two-Factor Authentication using an app like Google Authenticator or a hardware key. This prevents access even if your password is compromised.
